Zeiss
Humphrey IOL Master
The
FDA has recently approved a new tool for measuring the
eye prior to cataract surgery, the Zeiss Humphrey IOL
Master. It is the first non-contact optical
coherence biometer and it allows fast, accurate
measurements of eye length and surface curvature,
necessary for cataract surgery.
The
IOL Master
is very efficient because it allows technicians to
take all measurements with complete confidence in the
accuracy of the results. Also, because it
is non-contact (nothing touches the eye itself) there
is no need for anesthesia and there is no potential
for spread of contamination from the instruments.
For patients undergoing cataract
surgery, The Idaho Eye Center features the IOL Master
- a new laser system that offers the most accurate and
precise method of calculating a person's intraocular
lens power. This is done without ever touching the eye
and all within a one minute period. Simply put, this
is the most accurate method to allow a person
undergoing cataract surgery to see to their best
potential.
